The
Wide Border
|
The
borders each side of the grass path leading to an ageing chestnut
tree, are planted with shrubs and herbaceous plants in tones
of crimson, pink, mauve and purple with abundant grey foliage.
A
magnificently flowered rose 'Cerise Bouquet' threatens to
take over, and Magnolia loebneri 'Leonard Messel' has
become a small tree. A young tree paeony 'Rock's Variety',
has started to flower.

The
Wide Border
|
This
is our main summer border full of colour and scent with many varieties
of herbaceous geraniums, campanulas and penstemon. Several clumps
of the 'Burning Bush', Dictamnus albus purpureus are to be
found. On a still summer evening one can ignite their oily seed
heads in a spectacular pyrotechnic display without harming the plant.
One
side of the border is dominated by a purple-leaved acer while Indigofera
amblyantha and heterantha give height to the other side.
