When
the bounce on the tennis court became too erratic to play
on we seized the opportunity to make our own addition to the
garden. The mature yew hedges enclosing the the site and its
relative flatness suggested a formal water garden. The finished
result contrasts with but complements the rest of the garden.
Here Structure takes precedence over Texture and Form over
Colour.

The
sculptor Simon Allison answered our request to design something
that provided height and movement by producing twenty four stainless
steel stems topped with gilded bronze leaves moulded from a philodendron.
They sway gently in the wind and the sound of the water dripping
from the leaves provide refreshment on a hot afternoon. We
endeavour to restrict the colours here to black, white and green.
However the irrepressible flame red tropaelum speciosum proves
us wrong each July.
